Chiapas, the most Southern State of Mexico, is truly unique; In the lowlands we visit the Archaeological sites of Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan, in the Lacandon Jungle. We will stay 3 nights in San Cristobal de las Casas with a visit to the indigenous villages San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, (Mayan villages close to San Cristobal), and during this tour we will make a boat trip through the Sumidero Canyon, among others . This will be truly a once in a lifetime experience, and a Superior Tour! This tour is one of our “Special Celebrations Tour”, as we will be there at Carnaval, an amazing celebration in the Mayan Towns.
Best part of our tour: our guides! All certified by the Administration of Tourism of course, bilingual, and most of them also hold a degree in History, Anthropology, and/or Archaeology. They know the area better than anyone else, they will take you to the places that make this place so unique: Indigenous families, the Archaeological sites, the waterfalls, nothing will be skipped during this unique tour.

We head towards the border with Guatemala, to the Ucumacinta River. Today, the Ucumacinta River defines the border between Guatemala and Chiapas, but in antiquity its waters lay between the rival Maya cities of Piedras Negras and Yaxchilán. The two settlements were founded in the first millennium B.C., separated by 40 kilometers of dense jungle and the white rapids of the Ucumacinta. We will take a boat ride on the river to the archaeological site of Yaxchilán. In the afternoon, we will go into the Lacandon rainforest jungle to Bonampak, an ancient Mayan site famous for its colourful murals; it was first discovered in 1946. Second night in Palenque.
